Israel as a Positive Choice

I’ll say this very clearly. I am a proud Zionist and think that all Jews should live in Israel…but only if they choose to do so.

I hate the argument that the sudden shocking and upsetting increase in anti-Semitism in Europe and the US should spark aliya. Let’s face it, there’s still more terrorism and violence in Israel than there is in Europe and the US.

Israel of course, will always be ready as a place of refuge for Jews fleeing persecution, yet I don’t know even one person who made aliya because they were fleeing their country of birth.

My wife and I certainly didn’t. On the contrary, we had great lives in England, good jobs, family, a nice community, a beautiful house and a high standard of living. And England remains a great place for Jew today.

Yet we still moved to Israel, as did many of our friends, and the new friends we have made here from the US, Canada, South Africa, Australia and many other countries. None of them fled their home countries. All of them left good lifestyles but chose to live in Israel.

While aliya is not easy and not for everybody, Israel is no longer a backwards, poor and charity-based economy. Israel is now a booming, hi-tech and successful economy.

Even if you’re not planning to make aliya, Israel is still a smart investment.

There are so many positive reasons to choose Israel.
